On the Road: Woodland Ridge Retreat 2017:

“This was my second visit to Downsville, having been invited back by the lovely and energetic owner Chris Daly. Chris exudes enthusiasm—she really enjoys her job, in all its many parts. She is a fellow fiber artist, her forte is fabric dying (a couple of her pieces are in the background of my crocodile quilt, Crocodylus Smylus), as well as the visionary, owner, and chef, of Woodland Ridge. She has made her dream a reality and knows how she wants it to grow in the future. As a fellow entrepreneur, I admire that…click to read more

Day 2 at Woodland Ridge Retreat: Enjoying the beautiful classroom filled with natural light and plenty of space for every student. We are all fortified with fresh granola and hot breakfast each morning and a hearty, healthy lunch at noon. If that weren’t enough, the spacious guest rooms have beautiful handmade tiles in the private bathrooms complete with locally made cups, creating the perfect atmosphere for relaxing and learning. Chris Daly, who runs this wonderful center, thinks through the details of hospitality and cuisine and has a wonderful list of teachers. If you want to get away and learn, I highly recommend Woodland Ridge Retreat.

“I recently attended a workshop at the Woodland Ridge Retreat. Proprietor Chris Daly is a warm and hospitable host. She has created a lovely retreat with spacious rooms and oh-so-comfortable beds, a true luxury after a full day of creative work! Classroom space is well appointed, airy, and light filled. Delicious home cooked meals are healthy and tasty, with the occasional home-baked chocolate chip cookies in mid afternoon as a treat! Walks through the woods lead to nearby lakes and ponds, while the Red Cedar Trail is a delight for walking or bicycling. Nearby Menomonie offers a selection of restaurants , coffee shops and antique stores. I look forward to returning!”

I recently had the pleasure of attending a five-day adventure hosted by Chris Daly of Woodland Ridge Retreat and taught by Rayna Gillman. The focus of the class was the techniques listed in Rayna’s book, Create Your Own Free-Form Quilts.
The Woodland Ridge Retreat is a wonderful facility with outstanding amenities. The meals are prepared on site with care and expertise. Here are a few of the photos I took of the surroundings.  Click here to read more

“Our group had a wonderful time at Woodland Ridge Retreat Center. From the time we walked in the front door, we felt welcomed to a lovely, serene setting. The owner, Chris Daly, was always available to ensure that we had a great experience. The rooms are very large and feature beautiful linens and exceptionally comfortable beds. The bathrooms have lovely handmade tiles. Our meals were delicious. Homemade, local foods made breakfast, lunch and dinner a highlight of our day. Everyone was asking for the recipes.”

I am looking forward to a return visit.

“I am so glad I spent the last 4 days at Woodland Ridge Retreat with a group of my quilting friends. The setting is beautiful, and Woodland Ridge has such a peaceful, comfortable ambiance. The furnishings are wonderful, from adjustable tables to work on, to the cozy beds in spacious guest rooms. If you’re looking for a relaxing get-away, book your weekend! I hope Chris does very well with this new venture.”

“This is a gorgeous, well-executed facility with all of life’s little luxuries considered. Contemporary and comfortable, with great natural views. Much of the artwork and craftsmanship is local, and owner Chris Daly’s own quilted masterpieces and hand-dyed fabrics are featured throughout. The big beds are extremely comfortable, with soft, fine sheets, fluffy pillows and duvets, and handmade quilts. But it would be a shame to loll in bed all day, because the creative spaces are top-notch too: huge built-in design walls, height-adjustable tables, supportive chairs, and more. I can’t wait to wrangle together a quilter’s group and visit again!”

“Such a wonderful, spiritual setting for a retreat of any kind. I can’t recommend the place highly enough: Chris has thought of everything; the building is warm and spacious; the setting is nature at its best; the neighborhood charming and welcoming. I can’t wait for the next retreat at Woodland Ridge. ”

“I visited Woodland Ridge retreat in early December 2013 with some friends to work on some stitching projects. All I can says is WOW! The owner is friendly and knowledgeable. The facility is beautiful and set up perfectly for quilters or crafters. The rooms were elegant, extremely comfortable and very quiet. The neighborhood boasts some interesting and unique shops. I can’t wait to go back and have already made a reservation.”

Our hostess, Chris, was wonderful and I’m so happy to have spent time quilting here! I can’t wait to visit again – sooner better than later!!!!”

“I have been to many retreats and feel that Woodland is the most wonderful in the Midwest. Will be going back in June. Chris makes wonderful meals. The beds, linens and bathroom at a 10. The facilities are bright, the gardens wonderful and the walking paths are delightful.’
